What is Bing

Bing  is a search engine from Microsoft that finds and organizes the answers you need so you can make faster and more informed decisions.  A search engine is a tool designed to search the Web for information.  Bing was launched recently on June 3, 2009 as the replacement for Live Search.  But it is more than a search engine; it’s more along the lines of  a decision-engine.  Microsoft wanted to build something to help the many of us who are unhappy with our initial search results and it seems as though they have been successful.  It was specifically designed to build on the benefits of today’s search engines with a new twist to help customers make better and more informed decisions using the tools that this search engine provides.  It was developed to help people navigate more easily through the overwhelming amount of on-line content there is.

Microsoft’s goal in creating this search engine was to enable people to use the information they find, not just to help them search the Web and find information. Microsoft tried to construct Bing in the way that people really want to use the Web.

Microsoft introduced this new interface to try to shift market shares away from Google.  It has made this search engine smarter and able to make assumptions and refine searches based on real-world information sources. The new search engine has a number of innovations. One of the main ones is a tab to find results for similar searches. This should be a big help for less search-savvy people who aren’t as skilled in conducting a search.

Bing focuses on a couple of things.  It produces wonderful and relevant search results which enables one to a smoother and more informative search process.  Their organized search experience is twice as useful as a regular search to help locate information and finish tasks quicker.  Bing includes a couple of features that organize search results and cut through the clutter of unnecessary information.  It also has the ability to provide insight and help people make more informed decisions. For example, while a customer is shopping for an item, Bing will search for reviews and opinions on the item, so the customer can come to an informed buying decision. In addition, the results are designed to bring up the sort of things that people usually want, for example, phone numbers, which may be available in a hard to find location in the site.  It is known to be extremely user-friendly; making for a pleasant search experience.

Alex Hoye, chief executive of Latitude, a company that specialises in search engine marketing and pay-per-click advertising, says: “This is the first thing we’ve seen in a long time that has things Google doesn’t have. That’s nice to see.”

Whether Bing will be a success remains to be seen, but it definitely has brought some change along with it.  Change that makes it a pleasant and easy to work with search engine.  Many people feel that there is nothing that can compete with Google but Bing is definitely on its way to try!
